Generation J.D.

Generation JD “officially” launches

By: Richard Simon

Alright, alright…so I know we technically started Generation JD on Tuesday, October 27 in conjunction with the launch of our new Web site, but last night you could say we “officially” got things underway.

We held a launch party/happy hour at the B&O Restaurant in downtown Baltimore (pictured) where the state’s young lawyer crowd came together to eat, drink, schmooze and meet our Generation JD writers and Daily Record staff.

We had a great time and we hope you come back here to get your fix of legal analysis/commentary from our talented writers.

When is it okay to not call a Judge, ‘Your Honor‘? Should cell phones be allowed in the courtroom? And what is the best way to organize a trial binder (hat tip: John Cord). Those are a just a few of the posts that have already been submitted.

Enjoy and Happy Reading!

Via Lifehacker come these figures on job market competition in June of this year. Indeed.com has compared the number of unemployed workers to the number of job postings in the same metropolitan area. If you’re looking in Washington, D.C. – or its surrounding suburbs, I imagine – you’re in luck: at No. 1 on the list, the ratio of job postings to unemployed workers there is 6:1. Welcome to Generation J.D.

By: Richard Simon

We’re thrilled to bring you Generation J.D., a blog for young lawyers in Maryland and across the country.

Generation J.D. is a product of The (Maryland) Daily Record, a business and legal publication since 1888.

Our writers will share their experiences starting out in the legal profession and balancing work and family life.

What’s it like to stand in front of a judge for the first time? How do you juggle a new baby and a BigLaw job? And what’s it like behind-the-scenes at a lawyers’ league softball game?

The answers to those questions and more await you! Happy reading.

Why some people take pride in the fact their Facebook profile emulates an episode of Tosh.0 is beyond me. (I am not saying that I don’t watch the show and laugh hysterically. But, simultaneously, I do wonder why people put some of this stuff up on the Internet for the entire world to see.) While Facebook [...] […]

A few days ago, Gawker published “Confessions of a Therapist.” (Warning: The story, starting with the headline, covers some mature topics.) In it, the therapist talks about some of his clients in generalities and the approaches he took to help them. The therapist also talks about trends he saw between them and things he wished [...] […]

Ah, Super Bowl Sunday. The fierce competition of rival athletes. The camaraderie of dedicated fans. The nail-biting, last minutes of a game where anything could happen.
