Bill Gates probably hasn’t heard of the Tech Council
I don’t think I’m easily dupable, but when I saw a tweet promoting Bill Gates, Steve Jobs and Google’s Eric Schmidt as headliners for a Chesapeake Regional Tech Council seminar, I had to follow the link to find out more.
Turns out, the tweet was created with curious people like me in mind. The honchos from Google, Apple and Microsoft will NOT be coming to a town near you to discuss intellectual property infringement.
Rather, it was a ploy by the seminar’s moderator, Chris Ourand, to increase interest and possibly drive traffic to his blog Arundel Business News.
Now that I have your attention, the real panelists are Jim Bechtel of Intellectual Assets Consulting, Kristin Herber with law firm Tydings & Rosenberg, Ermis Sfakiyanudis of eTelemetry and Greg Meyer of iJET, with moderator services provided by your faithful ABN scribe. Topic for the Dec. 8 event of the Chesapeake Regional Technology Council is “Intellectual Property: How to Handle Infringement, Maximize Value.” Come see what you need to be thinking about.
While I hate misleading headlines, Ourand did clear things up right away. Is this a case of shameless self promotion or a creative way to gain interest? I’m on the fence.
