FAQ

How can I be considered for the Top 100 Women award?

Nominations for 2012 will be accepted through Jan. 4 and can be made by anyone, including yourself. An application is automatically emailed to all nominees and must be completed and returned to The Daily Record in order to be considered for this award. A letter of recommendation is not required, but is encouraged to assist the judges in making their decision.

Who are the judges and what are they looking for when selecting the Top 100 Women?

A panel of judges consisting of business professionals and past winners from across the state select the Top 100 Women. It is essential that the candidate prove a combination of excelling at all three levels–professionally, in the community and with mentoring. It is helpful to have one letter of recommendation from someone that can speak to all three of these achievements.

Do the judges evaluate differently for the Circle of Excellence?

The Circle of Excellence is awarded for sustained achievement and those women who have won two times prior are eligible. The judges are asked to be extremely selective at this stage and look for continued involvement in all key areas with a demonstration that they are still actively involved and proactive.

Should I have a letter of recommendation sent?

Past judges have told us that the letter of recommendation is helpful particularly when they are not familiar with the candidate. Because the judges are reviewing 150 applications, only one letter can be submitted. The letter can be emailed to myesha.phillips@thedailyrecord.com or mailed to Top 100 Women, The Daily Record, 11 E. Saratoga Street, Baltimore, MD 21202. The letter will be paired to your application when it is received.

Can I buy a table?

There are no tables but you can buy a preferred seating package of 10 tickets. There is limited seating in the reception areas due to the large crowd but the auditorium will be open for anyone looking to sit down.

Are children allowed?

Children are allowed and there are a limited number of tickets available at a reduced price for children 12 and under.

Do the winners sit with their guests in the auditorium?

The winners sit together in the auditorium. There is open seating for all other guests in the auditorium.

Do the winners have to say something?

No speaking; the winners walk across the stage to accept their awards.

If I’m a winner, do I need to purchase a ticket?

You do not need to purchase a ticket for yourself if you are an honoree. All other attendees must purchase a ticket.
