Hartman Executive Advisors
As an officer in the U.S. Navy in the 1990s, Dave Hartman recalls being asked what he knew about computers by his chief of staff. He answered “Well, sir, based on your question, I have a feeling I am going to learn a lot more about them.” The response: “That’s right because you are going to be my new computer officer.”
That introduction has led to a career focus on technology that extended beyond Hartman’s military career. In 2004, he and his wife, Marie, founded the Timonium-based Hartman Executive Advisors, an independent, strategic technology advisory firm. “While most small and mid-sized businesses don’t need and can’t afford the services of a full-time chief information officer, they also cannot afford to be without strategic IT leadership to help them align technology with increased revenue, innovation, efficiency, customer service and risk mitigation,” he said.
The company’s mission is to shift the IT conversation from the server room to the executive board room. “We want our clients to feel that when they hire Hartman, they are hiring a part-time member of their executive team not a contractor,” he said.
And he is proud that his company has created a new business technology advisory model. “Twelve years later, we are still very unique,” he said. “We really think we are the only company of our kind. … It’s fun when you are going to a company and you are able to understand a pain they have and you are bringing them a solution that they have never heard of or they haven’t thought of before.”
