Scornaienchi re-eclected chairwoman of Howard Co. Alcohol and Drug Abuse Advisory Board
Joan Webb Scornaienchi, executive director of HC DrugFree, has been re-elected to a third term as the chair of the Howard County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Advisory Board, which reviews services and the need for services relating to alcohol and drug abuse education, treatment and prevention. Board members are appointed by the county executive and confirmed by the County Council.
Scornaienchi serves as Howard County’s Substance Abuse Prevention Coordinator on behalf of the Howard County Health Department and coordinates an alcohol coalition for the county. In 2009, she became the executive director of HC DrugFree, a nonprofit organization dedicated to keeping youth drug and alcohol free. She has more than 20 years of experience in educational administration and service as a drug and alcohol prevention specialist for a county-funded hospital program.
For more than eight years, she was a grants specialist and education program specialist at the Maryland State Department of Education. She also served in the financial services division of a Fortune 100 company in Columbia.
The 2011 graduate of Leadership Howard County serves as the secretary for the Howard County Commission for Women, and the vice-chair for the Howard County Public School System’s School Health Council. In addition, she serves on the boards of the Baltimore City Teen Court, Women’s Giving Circle of Howard County, and Soroptimist International of Howard County.
Scornaienchi, a certified grants management specialist, holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration, a master’s degree in student personnel services and completed all but her dissertation for a doctorate in educational administration. She lives in Columbia with her husband, John.
