Naeem Newman, MD, has joined Anne Arundel Medical Center’s surgical oncology department. He comes to Anne Arundel Medical Center’s DeCesaris Cancer Institute from Wake Forest University where he completed his surgical oncology fellowship in 2013. For two years prior, he served as a research fellow in the Johns Hopkins University Department of Surgery.
A Bowie resident, Newman has a special interest in the treatment of gastrointestinal cancers. He has been published extensively on the surgical management of pancreatic disease.
Anne Arundel Medical Center has hired Jennifer Smell, RN, as clinical manager of the pediatric department. Jennifer was most recently at Children’s National Medical Center, where she worked in a number of different roles including NICU outreach coordinator and clinical manager of transport medicine.
AAMC has also hired Jennifer Bistrack, MPH as manager of health promotion. She was most recently Community Health and Aquatics Coordinator for the City of Annapolis.
Sherry Perkins has been promoted to the position of chief operating officer of Anne Arundel Medical Center, in Annapolis.
Perkins joined the hospital in 2006 as chief nursing officer and became senior vice president, patient care services in 2010 after 15 years in clinical and leadership roles at University of Maryland Medical Center.
She leads the statewide effort to improve transition to practice under the Robert Wood Johnson/Institute of Medicine recommendations for nurse residency, serves on the Maryland Hospital Association Council on Clinical Quality, and is president-elect of the Maryland Organization of Nurse Executives.
Perkins recently was named to the board of trustees of the Maryland Patient Safety Center.
