The reverberations from Jack Johnson’s witness- and evidence-tampering charges continued to be felt this week, both in Maryland and in the ranking of the top 5 most-read law stories at The Daily Record’s website. And in some good news, congrats to the 1,088 who passed the bar exam!

1. Tapes will complicate P.G. County exec. Johnsons’ defense

The defense attorneys representing Prince George’s County Executive Jack B. Johnson have their work cut out for them, say defense attorneys observing the case.

2. Md. board recommends 1,088 for admission to Bar

Their admittance is subject to approval of their character and fitness qualifications.

3. O’Malley expected to select new Md. State Prosecutor by Thanksgiving

A list of three finalists to succeed retiring State Prosecutor Robert A. Rohrbaugh has been forwarded to Gov. Martin O’Malley, who is expected to make his selection by Thanksgiving, according to people familiar with the process.

Update: He did.

4. Feds charge 3 Prince George’s County police officers, 6 others

Seven people, including two of the officers, were charged with conspiring to commit extortion in a scheme to sell untaxed cigarettes and alcohol. A third officer and another man have been charged in a second indictment with a drug and gun conspiracy.

5. Baltimore police officer fired for helping man targeted by feds

A Baltimore police officer has been fired after the department found out he looked up information in police databases on behalf of a suspected drug dealer who’s under investigation by federal agents.
