Elizabeth Warren comes to Baltimore

By:

Harvard Law School professor and Obama administration official Elizabeth Warren will be in Baltimore on Thursday for a town hall meeting with U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings. Warren serves as a special adviser to the Secretary of the Treasury on the Consumer Financial Protection Board. But she is perhaps best known for chairing the Congressional oversight panel for the bank bailout.

Cummings’ office says Warren will discuss how the CFPB “will protect consumers and ensure that they will get the clear, accurate information they need about mortgages, credit cards and other financial products, and protect them from hidden fees, abusive terms and deceptive practices.” The event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Pratt library’s central branch.

Also appearing at the town hall will be Marceline White of the Maryland Consumer Rights Coalition. The organization has a new way to promote its mission: a documentary film,  “Stealing Trust.” The film “channels the clear eloquent voices of hardworking Marylanders who have lost their homes, their life savings and even their capacity to trust” because of consumer fraud. It will be screened for free July 11 at the Southeast Anchor Library.
