The FBI has released audio excerpts from phone conversations between former Prince George’s County Executive Jack Johnson and his wife, Leslie Johnson.
Have you forgotten about the Johnsons already? Perhaps these partial transcripts will “refresh your recollection” as to why these conversations — and this story — made national news almost exactly a year ago.
Here’s s a partial transcript from the first clip.
Leslie Johnson: “What do you want me to do with this money? They are banging! What do you want me to…”
Jack Johnson: “Put it… put it in your panties and walk out of the house.”
LJ: “No! But I mean all this cash, Jack! I got the one from down…”
JJ: “Put it in your panties, Leslie.”
LJ: “Oh my god. Okay.”
And here’s a partial transcript from the second clip:
JJ: “Put it in your bra and walk out or something with it. I don’t know what to do with it.”
LJ: “What do you want me to do with the check? Do you hear them banging?”
JJ: “Tear up the check… and um…”
LJ: “…it’s the FBI, Jack.”
JJ: “Yeah, I know, I know. That’s why I’m telling you.”
LJ: “Do you want me to put it down the toilet?”
LJ: “Do you want me to flush it?”
JJ: “Yeah, flush that.”
Jack Johnson pleaded guilty in May to extortion and tampering charges related to money he received from developers in exchange for helping them secure federal grants and approvals.
Leslie Johnson, elected to the Prince George’s County Council just days before her arrest, pleaded guilty in June to conspiracy to commit evidence and witness tampering.
