The Daily Record names David B. Simon editor

January 3, 2013 — David B. Simon, an award-winning editor with experience at several Maryland newspapers, has been named editor of The Daily Record, Publisher Suzanne E. Fischer-Huettner announced Thursday afternoon.

Simon, 36, will begin his new post on January 14, succeeding Tom Linthicum, who retired in December after more than six years as The Daily Record’s vice president and executive editor.

In his career as a writer and editor, he has served as managing editor for news and opinion at The Gazette in Gaithersburg, a weekly community newspaper owned by Post-Newsweek Media, where he managed a newsroom of about 30 editorial staff members. During his tenure, The Gazette won a first-place award as Newspaper of the Year in 2011 in the annual contest run by Suburban Newspapers of America.

The Daily Record launches InfoPoint database

Baltimore, Dec. 5, 2012 — InfoPoint, a searchable database of new incorporations, construction bids, contracts and real estate transactions in Maryland, was launched today by The Daily Record. It is the only database of its kind to offer all the information in one convenient-to-use location.

Located at infopoint.thedailyrecord.com, InfoPoint includes all new incorporations and real estate transactions — commercial and residential — in Maryland for the last six months as well as federal contracts awarded to Maryland-based businesses and all contracts awarded by federal agencies that are based in the state.

Baltimore, July 11, 2012 — The Daily Record recently won awards from the Maryland, Delaware, D.C. Press Association, including best feature story, investigative reporting, community service and citizen involvement, multimedia storytelling (sports), and numerous other awards for editorial and advertising excellence.
