Bethesda-based American Capital sells Wis. drug maker

American Capital Ltd., of Bethesda, a publicly traded private equity and global asset management firm focused on middle-market investments, said it sold its portfolio company, SPL Acquisition Corp., of Wenaukee, Wis., to a Chinese company, Shenzhen Hepalink Pharmaceutical Co. Ltd., for $291 million in debt and equity proceeds.

Higher bid roils Chindex buyout offer

Chindex International Inc., of Bethesda, a provider of Western health care products and services in China, said it has received a higher bid for the company than one made in February by a group consisting of a Shanghai-based pharmaceutical maker, a private equity group and Chindex’s current CEO.
