Data shows robust start for holiday retail sales

NEW YORK — Retail sales for the four-day holiday weekend, starting with Thanksgiving Day, rose 8.7 percent from a year earlier, a key data service said Thursday. Seafood dealers say crabs are plentiful in Maryland for the long holiday weekend. Prices on the Eastern Shore were as low as $100 a bushel for the largest male crabs, known as No. 1 crabs, ahead of the holiday weekend, but were running higher in Baltimore and were expected to increase along with holiday demand.
