Joan Webb Scornaienchi
Joan Webb Scornaienchi brought financial stability to a nonprofit that teetered on closing – and the timing could not have been better. Recently, she created a new campaign to address the opioid epidemic, “In the KNOW about Opioids,” and has overseen the delivery of educational materials to thousands of medical waiting rooms.
Scornaienchi serves on the Howard County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Advisory Board and the Howard County Commission for Women. She volunteers with Soroptimist Mid-Atlantic.
How have you made Maryland a better place?
“Through my work and many activities, I focus on saving the lives of sons and daughters in families across Maryland as I educate about substance-use disorders and the safe storage and proper disposal of medications. Thousands of pounds of unwanted and expired medications have been collected at the convenient semi-annual drive-thru Drug Take Back Days that I have coordinated to keep medications out of the wrong hands as well as out of our water system.”
