MARKETWATCH: Slowdown in Americans’ Income Growth Helps Check Barrage of Mutual Fund Cash

A slowdown in the growth of Americans’ income has helped stanch the seemingly endless flow of cash into mutual funds.<@SM><@SM><TAB>Consider that average cash inflows in the four months ending Aug. 31 fell by nearly 50 percent from the first four months of 2000. The slowdown can be attributed partially to cyclical reasons, including the fact that Americans tend to take home more money in the early part of the year.
