WESTMINSTER — A man who has a coop and 10 chickens on his property in Westminster is fighting to keep the birds.
James Ward says he was unaware of a city code and homeowners association bylaws that prohibit the keeping of poultry or fowl at his home. He got the chickens about three months ago.
The city has given Ward until Aug. 30 to get rid of the birds, but Ward will attend Monday’s City Council meeting to try to work something out.
Ward calls the code obsolete, and says he has enough space for the chickens.
He could be fined $600 if he doesn’t comply with the order to get rid of the birds.
