Ex-worker charged with hacking company’s network

A former drug abuse program worker accused of hacking his colleagues’ e-mail accounts and causing a pornographic image to pop up during a presentation from his boss has surrendered.

Fifty-one-year-old Walter Powell is scheduled to have a bail review Friday afternoon on several counts of unauthorized access to computers and unauthorized possession of pass codes.

Powell had been director of management information systems for Baltimore Substance Abuse Systems Inc. In the weeks leading up to his departure from the company, prosecutors say he used software to learn colleagues’ passwords and caused an image of a naked woman to be projected during his boss’ presentation to the board of directors.
