A former Towson lawyer’s initial appearance on charges that he stole money from four of his clients was postponed last week.
Peter M. Callegary was indicted last month on four counts of felony theft and four counts of misdemeanor misappropriation of funds. The alleged crimes took place between September 2005 and July 2008.
Callegary was scheduled to appear in Baltimore County Circuit Court on Sept. 23. No new court date has been set.
The Court of Appeals disbarred Callegary by consent this year. The Attorney Grievance Commission had filed a complaint for disciplinary action against Callegary in October.
Each theft count carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in jail and a $250,000 fine; each misappropriation count carries a maximum penalty of five years in jail. Callegary was released on $10,000 bond last month.
