GM to invest $23.5M at White Marsh plant

General Motors Co. said Wednesday it will invest $23.5 million for additional production of vehicle electrification units at the Baltimore Transmission Plant in White Marsh.

The investment will create 11 jobs at the plant. GM is using part of federal funds handed out by the U.S. Department of Energy in August 2009 to stimulate production of electric-powered cars and battery components.

Last January, the automaker announced it would invest $246 million and build a separate facility adjacent to the White Marsh plant, where it will produce the electric drives for its next-generation rear-wheel-drive hybrid vehicles, starting in 2013.
