ANNAPOLIS — The Washington Post and The (Easton) Star Democrat have endorsed Gov. Martin O’Malley for a second term in his rematch with Republican former Gov. Robert Ehrlich.
The endorsements were made Sunday, days before former President Bill Clinton is scheduled to rally for O’Malley on Thursday in Baltimore.
The Post’s endorsement credits the Democrat for taking “tough, decisive steps” by raising and revising taxes in 2007 to help avoid cuts that would have imperiled the state’s fiscal health. The Star Democrat cites O’Malley’s commitment to public education and making college more affordable.
The Post credits Ehrlich for advocating charter schools, but says he hasn’t outlined how he would pay for tax cuts under future budget deficits.
