GOP’s Harris beats Rep. Kratovil in Md. House race

Republican Andy Harris has defeated Democratic Rep. Frank Kratovil in Maryland’s 1st Congressional District.

The conservative state senator beat the moderate freshman congressman Tuesday for the seat representing the Eastern Shore and parts of the counties of Anne Arundel, Baltimore and Harford.

With 36 percent of precincts reporting, Harris had 53 percent of the vote to Kratovil’s 43 percent in a three-way race.

Maryland’s seven other House members won re-election.

They include and fellow Democrats C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger in the 2nd, John Sarbanes in the 3rd, Donna Edwards in the 4th, Steny Hoyer in the 5th, Elijah Cummings in the 7th and Chris Van Hollen in the 8th.

Republican Roscoe Bartlett won a 10th term in the 6th Congressional District.
