Baltimore man sentenced for nonprofit theft

A federal judge has sentenced a Baltimore man to 27 months in prison for stealing more than $233,000 from a nonprofit group.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says U.S. District Judge Richard D. Bennett also ordered 56-year-old Victor Frierson to pay more than $233,00 in restitution. Prosecutors say a year of the sentence is to be served in home detention followed by three years of supervised release.

According to Frierson’s plea agreement, he served as executive director of a nonprofit founded in 1996 in partnership with Sinai Hospital to improve the health of residents of Baltimore’s Park Heights community. Prosecutors say Frierson used the group’s funds to pay personal expenses and created false audit reports to cover the theft.
