Maryland’s Harris taking anti-tax stance to US House

REISTERSTOWN — Maryland congressman-elect Andy Harris says he’s not changing his conservative style of statesmanship as he prepares to switch from the state Senate to the U.S. House.

The Baltimore County Republican beat freshman Democratic Rep. Frank Kratovil by 13 percentage points Tuesday in the 1st Congressional District.

On Wednesday, Harris said he’ll continue opposing any and all tax increases, even at the risk of alienating moderate House Republicans.

Despite his obstructionist reputation, Harris says he’s always been willing to reach across the aisle — as long as bipartisanship doesn’t interfere with his basic principles of lower taxes and less government.
