UPPER MARLBORO — An incoming member of the Prince George’s County Council is indicating she won’t oppose the seating of newly elected member Leslie Johnson, who faces federal charges in a corruption probe.
Democrat Karen Toles issued a statement Tuesday saying she’ll refrain from judgment and defer to the judicial system in Johnson’s case.
Some county residents are seeking to block Johnson from taking office next Monday. But state election officials say there is no state law to prevent her being sworn in.
Johnson and her husband, Democratic County Executive Jack Johnson, were arrested last month on charges including bribery, conspiracy and extortion involving real estate developers.
