ANNAPOLIS — Anne Arundel County Executive John Leopold on Thursday announced his fifth countywide hiring freeze in four years.
Leopold said each hiring freeze saves between $2 million and $2.5 million, depending on the number of job vacancies and how long the freeze lasts.
David Abrams, a spokesman for Leopold, said the hiring freeze will likely continue until the end of the fiscal year in June.
Leopold said the county has been able to avoid extensive reductions in services or layoffs by taking cost-cutting actions, including the elimination of take-home vehicles, cutting travel expenses and reducing employee compensation.
