She graduated from Towson University and worked at a local accounting firm where she prepared audits, financial statements and tax returns. Carole L. Hinton is an administrative assistant. Loyola University Maryland, in Baltimore, has been named among the colleges and universities receiving the 2010 Community Engagement Classification by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The classification recognizes institutions demonstrating a significant commitment to their communities through service, curricular engagement, partnerships, and other forms of outreach.
Matthew Spencer and S. Thomas (Tom) Smith, of EBL Engineers, of Baltimore, recently received their Maryland professional engineering licenses. Spencer, who has been with EBL Engineers for 12 years, is also a certified geothermal systems designer/installer. Smith received his bachelor’s degree in fire protection engineering from the University of Maryland in 1982 and has been with EBL Engineers for 10 years.
Dr. Edward A. Sausville, associate director for clinical research at the University of Maryland’s Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Cancer Center, has been named an editor in chief of the journal Cancer Chemotherapy and Pharmacology. Before becoming a cancer researcher and professor of medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Sausville was associate director of the National Cancer Institute’s Developmental Therapeutics Program after serving as an attending physician at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Bethesda and Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C.
Ken Kaisen has been hired as chief technology officer and chief information officer of Vertis Communications, of Baltimore, a provider of advertising, direct marketing and interactive solutions. Kaisen most recently served as president and CEO at ClearMomentum. Before that, he was vice president and general manager of consulting and systems integration for Avaya Corp. Kaisen has also held technology and general management positions at Xerox Corp., and was the CIO for New England Business Services.
