Lord & Whip update: Judgment for Bank of America

A Baltimore County judge last week granted motions requiring at least two of Lord & Whip P.A.'s last three partners to pay a $270,000 confessed judgment filed against them by Bank of America. Jennifer S. Lubinski and Kathleen M. Bustraan had filed opposition motions to open, modify or vacate the judgments against them based on timeliness. Judge Sherrie R. Bailey granted Bank of America's motions last month, but the orders were not docketed until last week. The judge also vacated the confessed judgment against the third partner, Edward M. Ranier, meaning his case could go to trial. Future hearing dates have not been scheduled. At issue in the case is a $250,000 line of credit Lord & Whip took out five years ago. Bank of America filed its confessed judgment in April around the time Ranier, Lord & Whip’s last partner, voted to dissolve the 104-year-old defense firm.
