The Baltimore-based developer revealed plans Monday to build the center in La Vista’s Southport West Development, outside Omaha, Neb.
The first phase of the project, called Live! at Southport West, will include national and regional restaurants and a live events plaza. The events plaza is intended to feature a variety of free events for residents and visitors, including live music, art festivals and special performances.
The first phase will total about 435,000 square feet, with a construction budget totaling $114 million. The project is expected to create hundreds of new construction and permanent jobs in La Vista, the Cordish Cos. said in a statement Monday.
La Vista’s Southport West is already home to Cabela’s and JQH Hotel/La Vista Conference Center. City Mayor Douglas Kindig said in a statement Monday he hopes the development will turn La Vista into more of a tourist destination.
“Along with strong anchors like Cabela’s and JQH Hotels, the Cordish Cos. has the expertise and resources to deliver a best-in-class development that will greatly enhance our community,” Kindig said in a statement.
After the first phase of development, Cordish plans to build another 100,000 square feet for retail and entertainment at the complex.
The project is expected to be presented to the La Vista City Council Feb. 1 for consideration and a timeline for completion.
