Maryland lawmakers to outline same-sex couple bill

ANNAPOLIS — Maryland’s Senate and House majority leaders are holding a news conference to talk about their proposed Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act to recognize same-sex couples.

Senate Majority Leader Rob Garagiola, D-Montgomery, and House Majority Leader Kumar Barve, D-Montgomery, will outline details of the measure on Tuesday.

The legislation seeks to end the exclusion of committed same sex couples from civil marriage while also protecting the religious freedom of churches and synagogues.
