Baltimore gets $1.3M grant for fire equipment

Maryland’s senators and a Baltimore-area congressman have announced that Baltimore has received a $1.3 million grant to buy firefighting equipment.

Sens. Barbara Mikulski and Ben Cardin and Rep. Dutch Ruppersberger announced the grant on Wednesday.

The money will be used to buy 310 new self-contained breathing apparatus units for the Baltimore City fire department. The department is currently using units that are more than 12 years old.

  1. Can anyone tell me what type of water sonar is used in the State of MD?

  2. I find it abhorrent that the city is forcing taxpayers throughout the nation to finance our fire department. Baltimore should pay for their own services: not the feds. But we can’t because of the union strong arm. Shame on our Reps for adding to the multi-trillion dollar deficit.

  3. FINALLY…an article talking about spending TAX money on something usefull. 310 scba’s needed and i hope they are never used. Be safe BFD.

  4. WHY THE HELL ARE MY TAX DOLLARS IN FLORIDA BUYING FIRE FIGHTER EQUIPMENT IN MARYLAND? NOT THAT THEY DON’T NEED THEM BUT I DON’T LIVE IN MARYLAND AND CAN’T SAY THAT I EVER WANT TO! MAYBE SOME DAY I MAY VISIT SO IF THEY WISH TO CHARGE A SALES TAX FOR IT THEN MY MONEY MAY BENEFIT ME BEING SPENT ON THE EQUIPMENT BUT I JUST DON’T THINK THE REST OF US SHOULD BE FORCED TO BUY THE SE ITEMS FOR THE CITIZENS OF MARYLAND IF THEY CAN’T AFFORD THEM MAYBE THEY SHOULD LOOK AT SOME OF THE THINGS THEY ARE SPENDING THIER MONEY ON AND MAKE SOME FISCAL DECISIONS TO MAKE IT POSSIBLE FOR THEM TO BUY THIER OWN SHIT WITHOUT IMPOSING THE EXPENSE ON THE REST OF US!!!! JUST SAYIN!!!!
