FREDERICK — The U.S. Postal Service is considering moving some of its Frederick mail-processing and distribution operations to Baltimore.
Frederick Mayor Randy McClement said Thursday he received a letter from the Postal Service seeking public comment on the possible consolidation.
The letter says mail volume has declined 20 percent since 2007 and the Postal Service isn’t making enough money to sustain the cost of processing and delivering mail.
A Postal Service spokeswoman in Baltimore didn’t immediately respond to queries from The Associated Press about the number of potentially affected workers.
The Postal Service moved some mail-processing operations from Frederick to Gaithersburg in March.
