Edward St. John

Edward A. St. John, president of St. John Properties Inc., has appointed his successor.

Lawrence F. Maykrantz, senior vice president and CFO, will take over daily operations of the firm that owns and has developed more than 14 million square feet of commercial, office, retail and warehouse space in Maryland, Colorado, Louisiana, Virginia and Wisconsin, effective immediately, St. John said Monday.

St. John, 73, who in 1971 founded MIE Properties Inc. — predecessor to the St. John Properties company — will become chairman of the board and oversee the company’s long-range planning and the Edward St. John Foundation Inc., the company’s philanthropic arm.

Maykrantz, 52, has been an executive at St. John Properties since 1982 and has focused on project financing, tax planning and accounting functions. He has a master in business administration from the University of Baltimore and is a certified public accountant.

Larry Maykrantz

“Larry has demonstrated outstanding financial capabilities and business acumen throughout his nearly three-decade association with St. John Properties, and he is uniquely qualified to maintain the long-term management continuity of the company,” St. John said in a statement.

St. John Properties is developing the Government and Technology Enterprise (GATE) project, a 416-acre business community located within Aberdeen Proving Ground in Harford County; Baltimore Crossroads @95, a 1,000-acre mixed-use business community near White Marsh; and the Maryland Science and Technology Center @ Melford, a 3.2 million-square-foot mixed-use development in Prince George’s County.
