On the Move, 3/16: Van Pelt hired as brokerage director of Mid-Atlantic Broker Services

C. Scott Van Pelt has been hired as brokerage director of Mid-Atlantic Broker Services, of Bethesda. Van Pelt began his career in the retail business, and was a store manager at Rite Aid Pharmacy and Ames Department Store. From there, he entered the industry as a financial advisor with New York Life, before moving to the Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Co. He most recently worked at The Washington Group, a MassMutual general agency headquartered in Bethesda and affiliated with Mid-Atlantic Broker Services.


GWWO Architects, of Baltimore, has named Terry Squyres a principal of the firm and promoted Chris Elcock to senior associate. Squyres and the firm, which she joined in 1997, specialize in the planning and design of cultural and educational facilities. She has served on the board of directors of the Baltimore chapter of the American Institute of Architects and was recently named to the board of trustees of the Contemporary Museum in Baltimore. Elcock also joined the firm in 1997. His career has focused in particular on the design of higher education and community arts and theater facilities. Elcock has served on the committee for the Baltimore AIA’s ART Program; he teaches a study course in programming, planning and practice.


Seven members of the U.S. Army Edgewood Chemical Biological Center will receive Excellence in Federal Career Awards on May 6 from the Baltimore Federal Executive Board. Receiving Bronze awards will be: Lalena Wallace and Lisa S. Smith, Outstanding Para-Professional – Technical, Scientific & Program Support Team; Linda Thompson, Outstanding Para-Professional – Administrative Management Analyst, G8 & Above; Lawrence Oswald, Outstanding Trades and Crafts; and Sandra Leonard, Rookie Employee of the Year – Administrative/Management Analyst. Receiving Silver awards will be: Chika Nzelibe, Outstanding Professional – Technical, Scientific & Program Support; Gregory Thompson, Outstanding Para-Professional– Technical, Scientific & Program Support; and William Spangler, Rookie of the Year – Trades and Crafts.


Edward W. Kinsella has joined BankAnnapolis as vice president in the private business banking group. Kinsella previously was a business development officer at Revere Bank. The University of Maryland graduate also has worked at Sandy Spring Bank, Columbia Bank and Mellon Bank.


Two managers of gkv, a Baltimore marketing communications firm, have been promoted: David Blum is now senior vice president, director of account management. Blum has more than 20 years of experience in creating and implementing consumer and business-to-business marketing campaigns. He serves on the board of the American Advertising Federation of Baltimore and often acts as a guest marketing faculty member at area universities. Andrew Robinson is now senior vice president, account supervisor. Robinson has more than 12 years of integrated direct response marketing and advertising experience. He has a bachelor’s degree in marketing from the University of Maryland, College Park.
