GREENBELT — Prince George’s County Councilwoman Leslie Johnson has been charged with destroying a $100,000 check from a developer after FBI agents showed up at her house last fall.
Federal prosecutors in Maryland filed a criminal information on Friday charging Johnson with conspiracy to commit witness and evidence tampering. Her husband, former County Executive Jack Johnson, has been indicted on charges including extortion and bribery.
Prosecutors say Jack Johnson directed his wife to destroy a check from a developer last November after agents arrived at their home as part of a corruption investigation. She allegedly hid tens of thousands of dollars in cash in her bra and underwear.
Leslie Johnson faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of conspiracy.
