Mary Katherine Scheeler, who focused on estates and trusts law at the firm of Scheeler & Scheeler in Towson, died Thursday at the age of 83.
Mrs. Scheeler received her law degree in 1953 from the University of Maryland School of Law, which honored her last year with its Star Award for her service to the school and community.
“I met her in 1949,” her husband, Charles Scheeler Sr., remembered in an email circulated yesterday at DLA Piper LLP (U.S.), where one of their sons is a partner. “She brazenly asked me what time it was. I responded by asking her out for an ice cream. I was a year ahead of her in law school, and before I knew it, she had my first-year law books. I had to marry her to get them back.”
Mrs. Scheeler also wrote a column for the Towson Times and worked as a teacher in Baltimore. She served on the law school’s Board of Visitors for more than a decade and served on the Baltimore County School Board and the Goucher Board of Trustees.
A celebration of her life is scheduled for April 9 at Goucher College’s Haebler Memorial Chapel. The service starts at 11 a.m., followed by a reception at the Rosenberg Gallery.
