DOVER, Del. — Gasoline prices apparently have become so scary that more motorists in the region are afraid to stop at the pump.
The motor club AAA Mid-Atlantic says calls from members who have run out of gas are up more than 20 percent this month compared to last year.
Spokesman Jim Lardear says that while gas prices may make motorists cringe, they risk expensive car repairs by letting the fuel tank run low, not to mention risking their safety by being left stranded on the road.
AAA advises motorists not to let the fuel gauge get below a quarter of a tank, have their cars checked out if gasoline mileage drops, and not to pump the gas pedal repeatedly when trying to restart a vehicle that’s run out of gas.
