Now that the body of his daughter, Phylicia, has been found, Russell Barnes says the process of finding out what happened to her can really begin.
Barnes said Friday that now he can focus on learning how Phylicia died and making sure those responsible for her death face justice.
The 16-year-old from Monroe, N.C., disappeared while visiting her older half-siblings in Baltimore for Christmas. Authorities used dental records to identify her body Thursday.
Barnes’ was one of two bodies found Wednesday on the Susquehanna River in Maryland. Investigators are trying to identify the body of a man found a few miles away. Police do not know how either died yet. It is not clear if there is any connection between the two.
