A longtime aide to William Donald Schaefer is the largest benefactor of the former governor and Baltimore mayor’s will.
According to Schaefer’s last will and testament, which was publicly released on Tuesday, Lainy LeBow-Sachs is to receive $500,000, as well as a quarter of whatever is left of the estate after it is distributed.
Other beneficiaries included the Maryland Zoo in Baltimore and the National Aquarium, which both got $2,500 gifts. Several churches, including Old St. Paul’s Church in Baltimore, where his funeral was held, received gifts. He also left $10,000 to Gary Memorial United Methodist Church in Ellicott City.
The 89-year-old Schaefer died April 18. He was Baltimore’s mayor from 1971 to 1986 and governor from 1987 to 1995.
