UM’s Eastern Shore campus names interim president

Mortimer H. Neufville, former executive vice president with the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities and an APLU consultant, has been named interim president of the University of Maryland, Eastern Shore, in Adelphi, effective Aug. 16.

UMES President Thelma B. Thompson announced this spring that she will retire Aug. 15. Neufville held a number of positions at UMES from 1983 through 1996, including vice president for academic affairs, dean of agricultural sciences and research director.

He received doctoral and master’s degrees in animal science from the University of Florida, which gave him its Distinguished Alumnus Award in 2001.
