WASHINGTON — Pepco says it expects to return power by midnight to more than 1,500 customers north of Union Station.

BGE, meanwhile, says it is preparing for an approaching cold front could that could trigger thunderstorms and cause more outages.

In the Washington area, more than 2,000 Pepco customers were without power Wednesday afternoon, including several government agencies. The outages prompted the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission to close. Several D.C. government agencies also were closed due to the power outage. Those include the Department of Health, the Department of the Environment, the D.C. Housing Authority and others.
