FREDERICK — A former assistant manager at a Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration office is accused of stealing nearly $90,000 from the agency.
Attorneys in the case say 52-two-year-old Joann Fleishell of Thurmont is expected to go to trial this fall.
Court documents show she was indicted in April on a theft scheme charge. She’s accused of stealing $87,681 from the MVA between January 2007 and October 2008, while she was working as an assistant manager at the Frederick branch.
A spokesman for Maryland Attorney General Douglas Gansler says the AG’s office will prosecute the case because a state agency is considered the victim.
Fleishell was fired from the MVA in 2009, and court documents show she sued the agency, unsuccessfully, for wrongful termination.
