Washington Redskins going solar

The Washington Redskins have selected Princeton, N.J.-based NRG Energy to bring renewable energy to FedExField in Landover. New solar power installations integrated into the stadium and in the parking lot will be unveiled in September. NRG will install 8,000 solar panels in the Platinum A1 Parking Lot, which in addition to generating energy will also provide covered parking to fans.

There will also be 10 electric vehicle-charging stations.

The solar power system will provide a portion of the stadium’s electricity needs on game days, and can generate enough power to serve all of its electrical needs on non-game days, team officials said.
