On the Move, 7/18: Brown named to university positions for curriculum planning and expanding opportunities

Ricardo A. Brown

Ricardo A. Brown has been named assistant vice chancellor for academic affairs for the University System of Maryland, and chief academic programs officer at the Universities at Shady Grove. Brown will focus on curriculum planning and college-access initiatives, working with Montgomery County officials and the Montgomery County Public Schools to strengthen the pipeline for minority and first-generation college students to pursue degrees. He most recently was associate vice president for sponsored programs at Howard University. Before that, Brown spent six years at the National Institutes of Health as a health scientist administrator. He also served as professor and chairman of biology at Morgan State University and assistant and associate professor of physiology at the School of Medicine at Wayne State University. Brown has run his own business consulting company, providing services in federal grants and contracts, program evaluation and research market analysis. He received his doctorate in physiology and biophysics from Howard University. Brown was an NIH Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Cincinnati School of Medicine and at the National Institute on Aging.


Dr. Harvey S. Cohen, Baltimore, recently received Lifelong Learning & Service Recognition from the Academy of General Dentistry for his commitment to lifelong learning, volunteering his services to communities in need, mentoring associates and new dentists, and participating in organized dentistry. Dr. Cohen is a graduate of the University of Maryland, Baltimore College of Dental Surgery.

Emily Bendann, community outreach coordinator at SECU, has been named Coordinator of the Year for United Way in Anne Arundel County. Since Bendann joined SECU in 2005, she has volunteered for virtually every event and opportunity SECU has offered.


The Maryland and DC Credit Union Association recently elected members to its board of directors. Re-elected were Miguel Boluda, of PAHO/WHO Federal Credit Union, as chairman, Rod Staatz, of SECU, as vice chairman, and Chris Conway.  New officers are Theresa Mann, Partnership Federal Credit Union, secretary; Rob Windsor, First Financial Federal Credit Union of Maryland, treasurer; and Debbie Connors, Money One Federal Credit Union, chairman of the Community Outreach Committee. Also Paul Coakley, chairman of St. Agnes Employees FCU, was honored as the Volunteer of the Year, and Chris Conway, president/CEO of Educational Systems FCU, was named Professional of the Year.


Kelly Reap has been named a district sales manager by Payroll Network, of Kensington. Reap previously was a sales consultant for Paychex, Before that, she held management positions with Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
