A federal grand jury has indicted a Baltimore police officer and four others on drug and gun charges.
The indictment unsealed Tuesday alleges that Officer Daniel Redd of Baltimore is one of five people who conspired to distribute heroin. Court documents state Abdul Zakaria of Owings Mills, who led the drug organization with Redd, obtained heroin from suppliers in Africa and distributed the heroin to customers, including Redd, who in turn distributed heroin to others.
According to court documents, Redd sometimes made calls related to deals while on duty as a police officer and in March gave heroin to Zakaria in the Northwest District Police Station parking lot while in uniform.
The indictment further alleges that Redd carried a firearm in relation to his drug trafficking activities.
