DoD taps Neuralstem for stem cell technology

Neuralstem Inc. of Rockville, which is developing products to treat central nervous system disorders with patented stem cell technology, said it received a U.S. Department of Defense contract to develop its human neural stem cell technology for the treatment of cancerous brain tumors.

The award is for $1.6 million for the first year, of which Neuralstem will receive $625,000, and three one-year renewal options. Neuralstem is collaborating with a researcher at Loma Linda University in California on the project.
