Advanced Technology & Research Corp. of Columbia, an engineering and manufacturing firm, will unveil on Monday a solar-powered pole that gives electric-powered car drivers the ability to recharge their vehicles in a very small space.
The company’s 18-foot-tall Solar Power Pole is topped with a six-panel solar array that uses ATR’s GPS-based sun-tracking technology.
The systems are tied to the electricity grid to assure continuous availability of charging power.
The poles are being manufactured and assembled in Maryland, with support from Gov. Martin O’Malley, the Maryland Energy Administration and the U.S. Department of Energy.
