Sodexo gets new USMC contract

Sodexo Inc. of Gaithersburg, a provider of food and facilities management services to the corporate, education and health care markets, said it has been awarded a contract by the U.S. Marine Corps to provide food services for up to seven years at 20 Marine Corps garrison mess halls on the West Coast.

The contract is valued at $766 million over its term. The contract complements one awarded in February 2011 between the Marines and Sodexo for food service operations for 31 mess halls, bringing to 51 the number of garrison mess halls in Arizona, California, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia and Washington, D.C., served by the company,

One can wonder how Sodexo gets away with overcharging schools, even after they settle for tens of millions of dollars relating to the same practices in New York, how they pay a settlement for intimidating workers in New Orleans, yet go on the offense when they are accused of the same anti-union behavior in other locations. I suppose available legal funds and lobbyists like Senator Richard Gebhart are part of the reason. Too strong and big to be fought against. Are you there—- 60 Minutes?
