Rawlings-Blake declares state of emergency of Baltimore

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has declared a state of emergency for Baltimore as Hurricane Irene approaches Maryland’s largest city.

She made the declaration at 4:19 p.m. Friday. The mayor urged residents of low-lying areas in south and southeast Baltimore to move their vehicles and offered free parking.

Rawlings-Blake also urged those who live along streams or in areas that are subject to flooding to stay alert and to be prepared to move their vehicles or evacuate.

  1. Calling people 2:20am is not the right time to warn Baltimore residents to prepare for the hurricane.
