RICHMOND, Va. — Gov. Bob McDonnell continues his post-Hurricane Irene slate of prominent public appearances Tuesday, appearing alongside two Obama administration cabinet secretaries at a news conference.
Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack join the Republican governor at Virginia’s Emergency Operations Center in suburban Richmond at 4:15 in the afternoon.
The governor said on his monthly radio show on Washington’s WTOP radio Tuesday morning that Richmond — not Hampton Roads — appears hardest hit from Irene.
The capital city, which prizes its abundant old-growth trees, has a far greater share of power outages than Virginia’s coastal and Chesapeake Bay regions because of the number of trees Irene toppled.
The state’s dominant utility, Dominion Virginia Power, said more than 368,000 customers remained without service statewide on Tuesday.
