On the Move, 8/31: Shaik hired as assistant VP and CIO of IWIF

Julio C. Shaik

Julio C. Shaik recently joined IWIF Workers’ Compensation Insurance as assistant vice president of investments and chief investment officer. A chartered financial analyst, Shaik manages IWIF’s investment portfolio and advises the company’s board of directors on investment strategies to improve portfolio return. He previously was a founding member and managing director of Black Knight Asset Management, a fixed-income investment firm in Washington, D.C. Shaik is a CFA charterholder.


Brooks Wunder has been promoted to senior in the audit, accounting and consulting department of Ellin & Tucker. Wunder has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting from Notre Dame of Maryland.


Richard M. Riley has joined the staff at BankAnnapolis as a mortgage loan officer in the Bestgate branch. Riley, a University of Maryland graduate, previously was a senior loan offer at Washington Savings Bank. Before that he was a senior loan officer at Severn Savings Bank for nearly 18 years.


Michael P. Binko, president and CEO of kloudtrack, of Annapolis, recently was elected to the board of directors for the software division of the Software and Information Industry Association. Binko has been active as a speaker and delegate for SIIA conferences and was a founding member of SIIA’s Government Liaison Committee. His Software-as-a-Service and cloud computing (SaaS|Cloud) company offers governance, risk and compliance technologies for business processes, data management and human interaction workflow.

Dr. Julio G. Davalos has joined the Glen Burnie office of Chesapeake Urology Associates. Dr. Davalos is certified by the American Board of Urology and fluent in English and Spanish. He treats all aspects of adult urology, specializing in providing surgical, medical and preventive care for kidney stones. Dr. Davalos previously was director of the Kidney Stone Center and vice chief of the department of urology at Charleston Area Medical Center, in Charleston, W.Va. He also was a clinical professor with the West Virginia University School of Medicine, Charleston Division.

Katzen Eye Group is opening its third office, in Rosedale, and adding Amy A. Zimmerman, M.D., and Lori A. Sportelli, O.D., to its staff. Dr. Zimmerman and Dr. Sportelli will begin seeing patients Sept. 6 at the Rosedale location, which will provide general ophthalmology, retina, glaucoma, oculoplastics and pediatric ophthalmology services as well as primary and optical care. Dr. Zimmerman is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Medicine; she completed her residency at the University of Maryland Medical System. She manages the Franklin Square Hospital Eye Clinic and is on the staffs at the University of Maryland Medical System, Baltimore VA Medical Center and Eye Surgery Center of White Marsh. Dr. Zimmerman most recently worked at Kasper, Loeb and Zimmerman as a general ophthalmologist. Dr. Sportelli received her Doctor of Optometry from Pennsylvania College of Optometry and has worked at Wal-Mart Vision Center for more than 16 years. In 2007 she was named the Maryland Optometric Association Optometrist of the Year.


Carton Donofrio Partners, of Baltimore, has appointed Jon Leon as art director and David Frisch and Paula Lattanzi as senior account leaders. Leon previously was senior art director at Vitro, a San Diego-based agency. Frisch previously oversaw product development projects and overall portfolio management at Stanley Black & Decker; he also was marketing manager at McCormick & Co. Lattanzi most recently worked as assistant vice president, integrated marketing strategies at T. Rowe Price Investment Services, in Owings Mills. She has bachelor’s and MBA degrees from Loyola University Maryland.
