HAGERSTOWN — Unilever says it will close its Good Humor-Breyers ice cream plant in Hagerstown in August 2013.
Washington County’s economic development director said Monday that the shutdown affects 440 workers.
Tim Troxell tells The Herald-Mail of Hagerstown that the Dutch company revealed its plans in a filing with the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation on Sept. 2.
He says layoffs will start this fall. Troxell says the company hasn’t offered a timetable for laying off workers over the next two years.
The company first announced its intention to close the plant in June 2009.
